The Girl in the Red Dress

“I like you, like a lot.” He quickly looked down at his shoes, his face as red as the dress she wore. “I really do… like you.”

It took everything in him not to run away at this moment. He had long dreamed of confidently telling her how he felt, of wooing her until she fell for him as he did for her, of taking her into his arms and keeping her safe in them forever.

It felt way different in real life, and much more embarrassing.

Without waiting for her reply, he turned from her, mumbling, “Yep, that’s all I wanted to say, so goodbye!”

He was about to run away and probably hide from the world forever, when he felt a hand firmly take hold of his. He looked back to see that her eyes were searching for something on the ground as she held him in place.

“I like you too… I do.”

She then looked up at him with a big smile and embarrassed tears falling down her cheeks. Shocked as he was, he could not help but grin, and gingerly stretched out trembling fingers to touch her face. She did not protest when he wiped her tears away gently, though his heart was exploding from joy.

A warmth from within him swelled through his veins, but he was hesitant in his happiness. In his indecisive pause, she stepped closer to him, just enough to have their faces almost touch. She closed her eyes and he followed suit, and they shared their first kiss.
