Waiting

This was our spot.
This was where we found each other, where we confessed our love for each other, where we said goodbye to each other.
Sighing, I looked towards the horizon. The sunset was beautiful, despite seeing it through the blur of my tears.
“We’ll be together soon,” she whispered in my ear on the night she left. “I promise.”
It had been 4 years since she told me that. 4 years since she left. 4 years since this waiting begun.
I wiped my face and smiled. Tonight was the night I returned into her arms.
It was easy enough to climb the fence. Once I balanced myself atop it, I was immediately greeted by a gentle gale, a kiss that made me shiver to my bones.
I took one good look at the setting sun. No more waiting, darling. I’ll see you soon.
I stepped off the ledge.
