Moonlight in Vermont
She sat back to skip a track and sighed. Yep, she was pulling an all-nighter again.
She had two long tests in two days and way too many pages to go over. The sheer amount of schoolwork was suffocating, and she was in just her first year of med school.
She took a sip of her tea and opened her book. Nothing she could do about it but to start. It was for a dream she’d had since she was a young girl anyway.
Just as she was taking up her pen, a smooth jazz track played from her speakers and she paused.
Pennies in a stream
Falling leaves of a sycamore
Moonlight in Vermont…
She smiled slowly and closed her eyes as she swayed to the beat. It reminded her of traveling with friends, nights in jazz clubs, and meeting handsome strangers…
People who meet
In this romantic setting
Are so hypnotized by the lovely…
She snapped her eyes open when she felt tears pouring down her cheeks. Angrily, she wiped her eyes and shook her head. No need to remember distant memories that would only serve to distract her at this pressing time.
Her fingers hovered to skip the track, but they lingered at the buttons.
You and I and moonlight in Vermont…
She took a deep breath and let the song end. She then turned off her speakers, opened another book, and went back to work.
