How to Spell Mahal Kita

“Mahal (Love), what’s the best Filipino love song?”

Adjusting her glasses, she leaned back as she watched him go through the playlist on his laptop.

“Hmm… Hanggang by Wency Cornejo.”

A smile appeared on her lips.

“Love, why the sudden interest in sappy ballads?”

“Kasi… mahal kita, sinta (Because… I love you, my beloved),” he blushed, as he stumbled over the words with his foreign tongue.

“I want to play the sweetest love songs for you.”

“That’s not how you spell it though,” she laughed, as he struggled to type out its title.

Amused, she took the computer from him and looked up the song, then settled into his arms while they let the music drift around them that rainy afternoon.
