Excite

We walk
inside the
café we
always go to
together. It is
quiet, but you
never
are.

Your boisterous
voice
echoes in each
corner, and your
raucous laughter rings
in my ears
in my mind
in my
heart.
Your
excitement for
your drink is
almost equal to
my
excitement for
your
company.

You tell me about the
sitcom you
watched last
night. I
also watched it
but I
like watching
you
more. I enjoy
your little dimples that come out with each smile
your funny hand gestures when you emphasize your point
your disarming charm that sets my heart aflame every
time.

I order our drinks, two
Earl Grey tea lattes. I
don’t like
Earl Grey tea lattes, but
you
do. So I try to
like something I
don’t like for
someone I
do.

You go to
our table, the
one by the
window, where the
afternoon
light hits your
hair, giving you a
halo only
I can
see. You
smile at
me as
I take up
our cups and head
towards
you.

I see the
sparkle in your
eyes and
one day hope
that
sparkle will
not be for
your
favorite
drink but for
me.
