DD Coffee

She looked around the smoky karaoke room and laughed to herself. It was always fun to watch people loosen up after a few drinks.

Most of her friends were drunk already, and they were all happily singing away. One of them turned her way and drunkenly raised his beer mug at her. She raised her own glass of water at him and smiled. He grinned and took a swig before shouting “It’s my life!” along with the others.

It had been 3 hours since this party started, and it was probably going to persist until the morning. She looked at her watch – 11 PM – and sighed. Ah well, she might as well get some coffee.

She quietly got up and moved to the door. One of her friends lazily wrapped her arms around her and slurred, “I love you so much. Thank you for being tonight’s DD; you’re a hero.” She gently pushed her friend to the seat and walked on.

The bright light of the hall made her blink, and she stood by the doorway for a while. When her eyes adjusted to the light, she saw a young man exit the karaoke room across hers. He seemed dazed, but not quite drunk. She watched as he rubbed his eyes and looked up to see her watching him.

She shyly smiled his way. He smiled back. She asked, “Coffee?” He grinned. “Oh, yes, please.”

“Let’s go then.”

They walked out of the establishment together and laughed as they made their way to the nearby donuts shop.
