A Dance of Dragons

He looked up and saw her gloriously dancing among the clouds. He smiled.

There were many like her that were flying in the breeze. Their bright colors shone brilliantly against the azure sky. He could also hear them roar as he raced across the grounds, eyes fixed on the dragons above.

But his heart was aflutter at one thought alone: seeing her magnificence reign supreme in her windswept dance in the heavens.

Her scales glinted in the sunlight as he saw her wink at him. His heart leapt, and he happily waved at her.

But something was wrong. The breeze suddenly stopped. With a tug of pain, she swiftly began falling to the ground.

He saw this and panicked. Wildly grasping in the air, he started pulling at an invisible string that he hoped would at least bring her to him.

She fought through the descent, but the resistance did little to keep her from falling. Down, down, down she went, her tail flying wildly behind her.

He ran to her direction, only to see her crash into the ground. Tears began falling from his eyes as he slowly approached the now quiet dragon. He gently took her into her arms.

Just then, his mother came quickly to his side. Seeing the defeated beast, she gave him a big hug.

“Oh honey, I’m sorry your kite broke. We’ll get you another one, okay?”

The boy looked at his mom sadly and nodded his head. She ruffled his hair and carried him in her arms.

He looked at her one last time and remembered her glorious dance among the clouds. He smiled.
