Never Again
She looked his way and saw him flash her a debonair smile. Shaking her head, she turned away and blushed. From the corner of her eye, she saw him move towards her.
This was the night she had been preparing for. Long had she allowed herself to fall into his arms, his charm, his power over and over, but not anymore. She had picked herself up and worked on herself, and she was not going to allow this man to play with her heart one more time.
She took a sip of her drink for liquid courage, and felt his presence hover by. Just five more steps until he was right next to her. She shivered. Four. Three. Two. One.
Then he kept walking, going past her, as if he didn’t even see her. Surprised, she followed his footsteps and saw him kiss the cheek of a beautiful woman in a red dress.
She felt a tearing at her heart, and quickly turned away from the scene. This is what she wanted, right? For him never to shower her with attention again? For him never to touch her again? For him never to be in her life again?
She placed her drink on the counter and moved to the exit. With unsure steps, she exited the bar, unbidden tears falling from her eyes. She didn’t look back.
