Mesmerized
I took a sip of my Americano as I watched JD talk, simply mesmerized by his passion and energy.
He was talking to me about his latest business idea, something about fintech and disruptors. I had no idea what he was talking about, as all I wanted to do was disrupt him from his rambling with a kiss.
“Are you listening? Stay with me, man.” He snapped loudly, bossily. I smiled and apologized. “Okay, so…” And here, he brought out a pen and wrote figures on a paper napkin. I stared at his fingers, wishing to lace my fingers in his.
He went on and on about his ideas and in my head, I went on with mine. I answered when prompted and nodded when appropriate, while I imagined him wrapping me in his arms and whispering things in my ear.
He clicked his pen closed and turned to me. “Got it?” I gave him a thumbs up and assured him of my complete support in his project. He relaxed, and a small smile played on his probably oh so soft lips.
“Perfect. By the wa- oh, there she is.” I turned to see his new girlfriend of the week walk in the cafĂ©. I shrugged.
“Carla, meet Diego. Diego, Carla.” I shook hands with this Carla, and she smiled coyly. I estimated that they’d last 3 weeks.
JD wrapped an arm around her waist and turned to me. “I’ll see you later, all right? Say hi to the wife for me.” He nodded my way and turned to leave.
I stared at his writing on the napkin and sighed, simply mesmerized by his passion and energy. If only. If only.
