Holiday Work
I fired off an email, saw the 20 unread ones I still hadn’t gone through, and leaned back, looking at the near empty hotel lounge. This was not how I wanted to spend my holiday. Not at all.
I scheduled my one-week time off about a month ago, and really looked forward to this vacation. Nothing but sun, sand, and silence for me for once. Ah, bliss.
Cue me getting sick with the flu a few days before my planned leave, which, of course, disrupted operations in the office. I didn’t want to cancel my trip, but I didn’t want to leave my team hanging either. So I begrudgingly packed my laptop and decided to just do what work I could while in paradise.
Well, it’s been two days, and the pending tasks on my list never seemed to go down. It was a struggle getting on top of everything, and I just couldn’t manage it, no matter how long I worked. It didn’t help that the weather outside was glorious and the sea called my name every time I looked out the window.
With a sigh, I turned back to my laptop and my never-ending task list. Its screen went dark, then suddenly came back on with the words “Updates Installing” shown in block letters on the screen.
My heart sank. It would take forever for updates to install! What would happen if-
A slow smile appeared on my face. It would take forever for updates to install, indeed.
I closed my laptop, got up quickly, and hurried to my room, excited about the free time that I suddenly had.
Free time. I paused and laughed out loud, shaking my head at the thought. I was joyous about free time during my vacation? Ridiculous.
Chuckling still, I slowed down, took my time, and decided to spend my holiday just the way I wanted to.
