Brown Eyes
“Ugh, yes, we did break up. How are you right about these things all the time?”
She pushed her glasses up her nose. “Because you fall in and out of love too fast. Always.”
He turned to her, laughing. She was staring at him with her usual deadpan expression. There was a stray strand of hair on her cheek, and he suddenly had the urge to put it back into place. He shook his head and threw his baseball up in the air.
“Well, at least I can feel, right?” He caught the ball and looked intently into her eyes. “I don’t think you have – nor will you ever – fall in love.”
Nothing seemed to be reflected in those brown eyes, except for what he thought was indifference. He felt a familiar yearning, a twinge in his chest.
She shook her head. “No, perhaps not.”
She stood up from her seat and moved away. Her hair fluttered behind her as he watched her leave.
He felt a pang in his heart, and immediately took out his phone. He dialed a number. “Hey, sexy. Let’s have dinner tonight at 8?”
He did not see how she looked back at him as he talked away animatedly. Without a word, she turned from him, slow teardrops falling down her cheeks.
