A Short Sun Bath

“Just a few more minutes.”
Myra leaned back on the wall, watching the sunset through the window pane by the staircase. “It’ll be dark in a bit, so let me enjoy this.”
Jake, who was at the door, turned to her and smiled. “It has been a long day, hasn’t it? It’s fine. Take your time.”
“Thank you,” she whispered.
He watched as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She looked so relaxed, so peaceful, so happy while she basked in the gentle afternoon rays. This was the Myra he fell in love with, the Myra he keeps falling in love with, the Myra he will always fall in love with.
A comfortable silence passed between them. After a while, the light faded, and Myra’s short sun bath was over.
Jake moved towards her and wiped the tear that rolled off her face. She started sobbing. He held her close until she quieted down.
“Thank you, Jake. I… really enjoyed that.” She brushed off the other tears and gave him a kiss on the cheek. She then grinned and exclaimed, “Last one in cooks dinner tonight!”
He laughed as she dashed inside. He gently touched his face where she kissed him and followed her in.
